Kansainvälinen Helvi Sipilä -seminaari järjestetään 16. kertaa – aiheena suostumus, siihen liittyvä lainsäädäntö ja naisten oikeudet
Kansainvälinen Helvi Sipilä -seminaari järjestetään maanantaina 7. maaliskuuta 2022 klo 16–17.30 Helsingin aikaa. Seminaari järjestetään vuosittain, ja tämän vuoden seminaari on järjestyksessään jo kuudestoista. Seminaari järjestetään tänäkin vuonna webinaarina verkossa. Seminaarin aiheena on suostumus, siihen liittyvä lainsäädäntö ja naisten oikeudet.
Seminaari järjestään yhteistyössä UN Women Suomen, Suomen akateemisten naisten liiton, Suomen NNKY liiton, Nytkis ry:n ja Naisjärjestöjen keskusliiton kanssa.
Tapahtuma on ilmainen ja kaikille avoin. Webinaariin voi rekisteröityä täällä 4.3.2022 mennessä. Huomaathan, että seminaari on englanninkielinen.
Tapahtumaan osallistuu jälleen useita kiinnostavia puhujia. Yksi heistä on paneelikeskusteluun osallistuva Päivi Kannisto. Kannisto toimii rauha ja turvallisuus -yksikön johtaja UN Womenilla, ja hänellä on yli kahdenkymmenen vuoden kokemus kansainvälisen kehityksen, rauhan ja turvallisuuden parissa.

The 16th International Helvi Sipilä Seminar My Body Is Mine – Legislation, Consent and Women’s Rights!
Sexual violence is a serious human rights violation and is recognized as a form of gender-based violence under international law. The CEDAW Committee requires States parties to take all appropriate measures to counter it and recommends that the definition of sexual crimes is based on the lack of freely given consent. With the title of My Body is Mine – Legislation, Consent and Women’s Rights, the 16th International Helvi Sipilä Seminar will examine sexual violence as a human rights violation and explore measures, including legislation, education, cooperation, and negotiation, needed to counter it. Finland’s ongoing legal reform on sexual offences will be compared to similar developments globally.

Suggested topics for the panel discussion: Topics may include the work of UN Women on sexual violence against women in general and in the field of peace and security in particular. How do conflicts affect sexual violence against women and what action should be taken to counter that influence and ensure that the requirement for consent is respected? How can it be ensured that women are included in negotiations for peace and as collaborators in state action against sexual violence? How can it be ensured that women get retribution for sexual violence in general and in post-conflict situations in particular? How can women cooperate to enforce their role as actors in decision-making on issues pertaining to sexual violence against women?

Helvi Sipilä (1915–2009) was a Finnish lawyer, diplomat and the first female Assistant Secretary-General of the UN. She was a well-known and respected advocate for equality and women’s rights. The International Helvi Sipilä Seminar is organized for the 16th time to honor her work by the Finnish Federation of Graduate Women, UN Women Finland, the Young Women’s Christian Association of Finland YWCA, the Coalition of Finnish Women’s Associations – NYTKIS, and the National Council of Women of Finland.
